Philadelphia Eagles Hire Vic Fangio as New Defensive Coordinator

Philadelphia Eagles Hire Vic Fangio

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced the hiring of seasoned defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on Saturday. The move comes in the wake of the Eagles parting ways with defensive coordinator Sean Desai after just one season. Senior assistant Matt Patricia temporarily took over play calling duties in December, but he won’t be returning for the upcoming season.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Vic’s reputation obviously speaks for itself. He’s a brilliant defensive mind who has coached at a very high level in this league for many years. In my time spent with Vic, I’ve seen firsthand what makes him such a great coach – tremendous knowledge of the game, passion, and work ethic. I’m excited for our coaches and players to be able to learn from him and see it for themselves.”

Fangio, at 65 years old, brings a wealth of experience to Philadelphia, having previously served as a defensive coordinator with various teams, including Carolina, Indianapolis, Houston, San Francisco, Chicago, and most recently, Miami. Fangio also held the position of head coach with the Denver Broncos from 2019 to 2021.

As the Eagles prepare for the upcoming season, the focus will be on how Fangio’s defensive expertise can transform a struggling unit into a force to be reckoned with, complementing the team’s high-level offense.
