Future Stars: Montez Redding won’t be slept on for long

Wr Montez Redding

The Jonesboro High School football team needed a spark coming off of a season where they finished 3-7 overall and 2-5 in their region. With their number one receiving option and three star athlete, Devon Rainey, heading to the university at Buffalo, someone had to fill the void, enter Montez Redding.

Known for his high flying ability on the hardwood where he averaged 11.8 points, 2.5 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game, Redding decided to join the Cardinals football team this past spring.
All spring, Redding flashed the skillset to create separation and consistently win in one-on-one situations. Practice performance coupled with a spring game that saw the converted basketball player haul in two touchdowns would lead to him earning his first division one offer from Troy University, all before taking a varsity snap in a Cardinals uniform.

Being dominate in spring practices is one thing, but could he do it under the Friday night lights of the fall? With week 1 of the 2023 Georgia high school football season in the books, we may be closer to an answer. In his varsity football debut vs the Mt. Zion Bulldogs, Redding put up 4 catches for 128 yards with 2 touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. If week one is any indication, the Cardinals may have found their next breakout player.
