DJ Lagway Dominates in Florida Gators Debut: 456 Yards and 3 TDs Against Samford
Gainesville, FL– The hype surrounding DJ Lagway’s arrival at Florida was real, and in his first college game, the 5-star freshman quarterback didn’t disappoint. Leading the Gators to a 45-7 win over Samford, Lagway put on a show, throwing for 456 yards and three touchdowns, reminding everyone why he was the No. 1 QB recruit in the 2024 class.
Lagway’s ability to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers was evident from the jump. Sophomore Eugene Wilson IIItook advantage, racking up 141 yards, including an 85-yard touchdown on a jet sweep. While that play relied more on Wilson’s speed than their chemistry, Lagway showed he knows how to let his playmakers work. Junior Elijhah Badger also made his presence felt, pulling in three catches for 123 yards, proving the Gators have some serious firepower in the receiving corps.
Sure, it was against an FCS team, but 450+ yards is still 450+ yards. Lagway’s poised performance and ability to find the open man in space signal that the Gators might have their next big-time quarterback. If this debut is any indication, Florida fans have plenty to be excited about.
