Devonta Davis Impresses in FBS Debut for Florida Atlantic
Boca Raton, FL.– Former Jackson State defensive lineman Devonta Davis made an immediate impact in his first game for Florida Atlantic, despite the Owls’ 16-10 loss this past weekend. The 6’3″, 300-pound senior stood out on defense, recording three tackles, one tackle for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble, proving he’s ready for the FBS stage.
Davis was a standout during his time at Jackson State, where he played a key role in the Tigers’ 2022 SWAC Championship-winning defense. After the 2023 season, he entered the transfer portal, seeking to challenge himself at the FBS level. Davis expressed his desire to test his skills against tougher competition, and his debut showed he’s up to the task.
Though FAU couldn’t secure the win, Davis’ performance was a bright spot in an otherwise tough outing. His ability to penetrate the backfield and force mistakes from the opposing offense will be crucial for the Owls this season. While we’re not calling him an All-American just yet, Davis is showing that he can rise to the occasion no matter the level.
The Owls may have fallen short on the scoreboard, but Davis’ play is a sign of what’s to come. He’s certainly a player to watch as the season progresses.
