In an unexpected development, Cormani McClain, previously a cornerback for Colorado, has chosen to walk-on at the University of Florida. McClain, a top high school signee of Deion Sanders last year, is returning to his home state.

Hailing from Lakeland, Florida, McClain was a five-star recruit and was ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect of 2023 according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He started four games and played in nine, making 13 tackles and two pass breakups in his freshman year. After a challenging year at Colorado, McClain entered the transfer portal.

His choice to walk-on at the University of Florida is a noteworthy decision. Even though Florida’s scholarship roster is at capacity, the Gators could bring McClain on board as a walk-on and make up for the scholarship deficit through NIL. This could be a pivotal move for both McClain and the Gators.

The Gators’ defense, which had a tough season last year, could see a significant improvement with the addition of McClain. McClain, who is seen as a potential superstar with the right work ethic and off-field habits, could reach new heights at Florida.

As McClain embarks on this new journey with the Gators, all eyes will be on him, anticipating his growth and contribution to the team.
