Cam Skattebo Puts NFL Scouts on Notice in Arizona State’s Double-OT Heartbreaker vs. Texas

If you didn’t know Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo before, his Peach Bowl performance against #8 Texas put the nation on notice. Before we dive into his legendary showing, let’s recap his stellar 2024 season.

Skattebo, a 5-foot-11, 215-pound wrecking ball, bulldozed his way to 1,568 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns on 263 carries (6.0 yards per carry). Through the air, he added 506 yards and three more scores on 37 receptions. Against ranked opponents like Utah, BYU, Kansas State, and Iowa State, he proved his worth, racking up 548 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, plus 135 receiving yards and another score. Numbers don’t lie—he’s one of the best in college football.

But what he did against Texas might get him a statue in front of Mountain America Stadium. Skattebo shredded the Longhorns for 143 rushing yards and two touchdowns, 99 receiving yards (74 after the catch), and even threw a 42-yard touchdown pass. Down 17-3 early, Skattebo hoisted Arizona State on his back, igniting a comeback that left Texas reeling.

“We fought through everything all season,” Skattebo said postgame. “Nobody thought we’d be close when we went down 17-3, but everyone on this team believes in each other.”

Head coach Kenny Dillingham couldn’t help but laugh when asked about his star’s impact. “This is just a Tuesday for Cam,” he joked. Skattebo grinned and corrected, “Wednesday.”

Even setbacks were classic Skattebo. “I threw up,” he admitted. “Drank too much water. Felt sloshy. Then felt better.” Dillingham quipped, “Puke and rally.”

With his college career over, Skattebo heads to the NFL Draft, where scouts will surely take notice. From overlooked Sacramento State recruit to college football legend, Skattebo’s story is one for the ages.
